API Management Should Consider Third-Party APIs

Bill Doerrfeld | June 7, 2024

To date, API management has only covered internal APIs or productized APIs. There has been a real lack of focus in the market on how we manage the third-party APIs we consume. There are rising costs and security vulnerabilities from blindly ingesting external APIs and a lack of scalable tools to manage it all.

This is changing, however, as new platforms are being developed to manage third-party APIs, like gateways focusing on egress. I'm excited about this trend, as I see many benefits from considering the entire API journey, such as cost savings, better inventory management, and improved performance monitoring.

Anyway, check out the entire article on the Lunar.dev blog on why we should see the end-to-end picture.
