The rise of AI is influencing new edge deployment patterns. My
latest feature for CIO.com dives into use cases for AI on the edge.
Analysts predict the future of AI will involve more autonomous decision-making closer to the source. Processing AI on the edge could help reduce latency and unnecessary data transfers and improve data privacy. As such, some CIOs are considering edge AI on their roadmaps.
My latest article on CIO.com gauges the interest around edge AI, its potential use cases, and tips on getting it right. "By 2025, edge computing will become even more widespread, particularly as AI and IoT expand," says Theresa Payton, former White House CIO and founder of cybersecurity company Fortalice Solutions. CIOs see many use cases in areas like smart cities, retail, manufacturing, energy grid optimizations, and beyond.
Of course, AI projects have had a lot of hype recently. Edge AI will hinge on optimized investments in infrastructure, using the right AI models, and keeping an eye on the environmental impact.
Check out the post for the full story! Thanks to everyone who participated in this one. By the way, if you are a CIO or represent one, I'm always looking for more CIOs to feature in my ongoing coverage on CIO. Feel free to send folks my way.
